A free introduction to pilates will be presented by Laura O’Brien, of Fitness Design for Women, from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the Zachary library’s meeting room, 1900 Church St.

Game time for teens

It’s teen game night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Zachary library.

Area teens are invited to play a variety of board games, including Apples to Apples, Scrabble and chess — the choice is theirs. Light refreshments will be provided.

This program is for grades six and up.

Fourth of July Spectacular

The USS KIDD Veterans Museum, 305 S. River Road, has been hosting a Fourth of July celebration in downtown Baton Rouge for over two decades.

The event, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 4, features vendor booths selling food and beverages, a KIDD zone, bands and hot dog eating and pie baking contests. The evening culminates with a fireworks show on the Mississippi River.

Infant CPR

Two free cardiopulmonary resuscitation classes teaching the core skills of infant CPR will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. July 6 and July 20 at Lane Regional Medical Center, 6300 Main St., Zachary.

This course is for expecting or new parents, grandparents, family members and baby sitters but does not offer a CPR certification card.

July Chamber Lunch & Learn

The Zachary Chamber of Commerce welcomes Police Chief David McDavid as its Lunch and Learn speaker on July 6.

McDavid’s “Safety For Your Business” presentation will offer information about how to plan, prepare and implement safe and secure practices for you and your business.

The chamber Lunch and Learn is a networking luncheon held the first Wednesday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lagniappe Restaurant, 5755 Main St., Zachary.

Summer assignments

Zachary High School students who have summer assignments in English, math, science and social studies can visit the school library to check out the required books or textbooks from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 7.

Ninth- through 12th-graders can view their summer assignments requiring books or textbooks by visiting zachary and selecting “Summer Reading Book Checkout Dates” on the homepage.

Confederate surrender

Staff and volunteers of Port Hudson State Historic Site, 236 U.S. 61, Jackson near Zachary, will commemorate the 1863 surrender of the Port Hudson Confederate garrison to the U.S. Army at 10 a.m. July 9.

The event will include the lowering the park’s large Confederate garrison flag and the raising of the large Federal garrison flag.

Following the flag ceremony, a cannon salute will be fired.

Coffee with the Pastors

Coffee with the Pastors is a relaxed but informative gathering where anyone can ask questions about the Christian faith, the methodist church and what it means to be a member.

The coffees are held monthly and last about an hour at Zachary United Methodist Church, 4205 Church St. Child care is available upon request, and light refreshments are served.
