Pack the Pantry this month

Pack the Pantry is a month-long event held every November to benefit the Zachary Food Pantry.

Schools, businesses, organizations, athletic teams and residents are urged to donate canned goods and nonperishable food items by dropping off at one of the POD bins located in the Zachary city parking lot, at one of the food barrels located at businesses around town or by sending food with your child to school.

Another way to contribute is by purchasing tickets for the Pack the Pantry gumbo sale slated for Nov. 13.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., to-go cups of chicken and sausage gumbo prepared by Cajun Catch/Chris’s Specialty Meats will be available for purchase by driving through or walking up. The sale will be in the city’s parking lot on Main Street next to the Zachary Police Department.

Buy gumbo tickets in advance for $5 each at the Zachary Utility Office, 4650 Main St. Cash, or checks made payable to the Zachary Food Pantry, will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the Food Pantry.

To become a sponsor, call Food Pantry Executive Director Reggie Dykes at (225) 247-8859.
