Despite a rainy start to the day, about 50 children, teens and adults participated Saturday in the inaugural Run With Rotary 5K.
The race started at the Americana YMCA and took runners, joggers and walkers along a 3.1-mile route through the development.
Rotarians volunteered to register racers, cook pastalaya and cheer for participants along the route. Coffee, doughnuts, oranges and water were served before and after the race.
Charles Anderson, of Zachary, was the overall winner with a time of 19:10 followed by Rhen Langley, 11, a student at Copper Mill Elementary, who finished second overall and first in the 11 to 20 age group with a time of 21:13.
Lillian Talbot, 11, daughter of Rotarian Ryan Talbot, was the fastest overall female at 25:52 and the second to finish in the 11 to 20 age group. Her mother, Dr. Amanda Talbot, also ran in the race and won in her category.
Additional winners included Ophelia Robin Boni, Laszlo Chauser, Slade Chauser, Devon Ellis, Suzette Gomez, Elliot Goux, Brodie Head, Taylor Landry, June Peay, Susan Varnadore, Zachary Rotarian Brandy Westmoreland, and Jared and Jenny Wooley.
Other Rotarians participating were Kate MacArthur and Francis Nezianya and former Rotarian Dr. Wayne Gravois along with several spouses and relatives of current club members.
All participants received a Run With Rotary T-shirt and medal.
Proceeds will help fund Rotary service projects in the Zachary community.
