Families are invited to Christmas in the Village, an old-fashioned celebration, beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 12 in the historical district of downtown Zachary.
Gourmet food trucks will gather in the city hall annex parking lot, offering smoked barbecue from Pullin Pork; hamburgers, po-boys and meat pies from Tramonte’s; and cupcakes and sweets from Cupcake Allie, according to event organizers.
Mayor David Amrhein will officially light the Christmas tree at dusk, and holiday music from local choirs and entertainment will fill the air at the gazebo on Virginia Street.
Parents are invited to bring their own camera or have their child’s photo taken with Santa Claus by the vintage fire truck, and a mailbox in the Zachary village will be ready to receive Santa’s letters, said organizers.
“Children are invited to write their Christmas wish lists to Santa, and elves will make a special trip to Zachary to pick up all the letters on Dec. 19,” said event organizer Sharon Phillips.
BREC will also be part of the event, offering games and entertainment for children.
More than 25 arts and crafts vendors will be available to jump start holiday shopping, and the Zachary Fire Department will be selling hot chocolate, with proceeds going to the Zachary Food Pantry, Phillips said.
“There will be something for everyone, including a Christmas movie on the lawn,” said Phillips. “?‘A Christmas Story’ will be shown at the Bauman House and co-sponsored by BREC. Tours of historical homes in the village, decorated for the holidays, will also be available.”
