The inaugural Baker Chamber of Commerce Banquet and Business Awards ceremony is slated for Oct. 29 at the Baker Municipal Auditorium, 3325 Groom Road.

Attendees will network and participate in a silent auction from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the awards program from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Former Gov. Edwin W. Edwards is scheduled to be the guest speaker.

Awards will be presented in the following categories:

Small, Mid-size and Large Company of the Year: Awarded to the companies with significant business and community achievements during the past year. Companies must be based in or have major operations in the Baker area.

Nonprofit of the Year: This award will be presented to the nonprofit that has made extremely remarkable or memorable achievements during the past year and has had a positive impact on the Baker community.

New Business of the Year: This award will be presented to the business that opened a Baker location within the past year. The company must have contributed significantly to the community, either financially or voluntarily, through charity work or other means of giving and had a remarkable first year of operations.

Volunteer of the Year: This award will be presented to someone who has devoted his or her personal time to charitable work benefiting the Baker community. They must be someone who exemplifies “service above self” and whose volunteer work has made a difference.

Emerging Leaders Recognition: This designation will be awarded to the persons whose lives and/or careers have embodied the core values of the Baker Chamber of Commerce: community, excellence, faith and family.
