Military wreath event scheduled for Dec. 12 _lowres

Wreaths Across America is a national organization on a mission to remember those who served in the military, to honor their service and sacrifice and to teach others to do the same.

Each December, wreaths are laid upon gravesites at national cemeteries across all 50 states, including Port Hudson National Cemetery, 20978 Port Hickey Road, Zachary.

The Baton Rouge affiliate of Wreaths Across America partners with residents, groups, businesses, organizations and corporations each year to sponsor wreaths for the gravesites. Through fundraising, additional wreaths are purchased to help reach the goal of every gravesite receiving a wreath at Port Hudson.

This year, the WAA organization partnered with the U.S. Vietnam War Commemoration, and beginning at 9 a.m. Dec. 12, a wreath-laying ceremony will honor servicemen and women who served in all wars and conflicts.

Members of the Capitol City Civil Air Patrol are volunteering to make this year’s event the best, Maj. Lois Hopwood said.

Everyone is invited to attend.
