Zachary Karate students will host two fundraisers Saturday to help pay for a trip to Pensacola, Florida, where they will compete in a tournament June 20.

A “trash and treasure” garage sale from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. will be held at Zachary Karate, 4729 Main St.

Donations of new or gently used items are being accepted. Call Edie at (225) 772-3623 for item pickup.

Also, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, karate students will sell jambalaya lunches. Plates will include jambalaya, white beans, salad, bread and dessert. Tickets are $6 and are available at the karate school. Tickets are preferred so that the organizers will know how much to prepare, but a few dinners will be sold without tickets for a donation.

Food addicts support group

Food Addicts Anonymous, a weekly support group to provide fellowship for men and women willing to recover from food addiction, will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday in June in the West Wing Conference Room at Lane Regional Medical Center, 6300 Main St., Zachary.

The group also meets from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the West Feliciana Parish Library, Room B, 5114 Burnett Road, in St. Francisville.

A 12-step program, Food Addicts Anonymous believes food addiction is a biochemical disorder that occurs at a cellular level and therefore cannot be cured by willpower or by therapy alone.

FAA is self-supporting. There are no dues or fees required for membership, only a desire to stop eating addictive foods. FAA is not affiliated with any diet or weight-loss programs, treatment facilities or religious organizations.
