The Zachary Community School Board honored Zachary High junior Curtis Hooper, 17, for his contributions to the school’s drama program at its March 1 meeting.

Trish Dry, who works with gifted and talented theater students, said Hooper has helped promote several school productions and is passionate about theater and helping his fellow students.

“He is mature beyond his years,” Dry said at the meeting.

Hooper is a member of the Manship Theatre Student Advisory Board, established to provide leadership and service opportunities for high school students throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. As a member of the Advisory Board, Hooper and high school students from over 23 area schools come together to learn about board leadership, arts administration, theater programming and volunteerism in their communities.

This year, the board produced its third annual benefit show for the organization 4TheKids, a teen-founded charity that works to expand and improve the children’s hospital facilities in Baton Rouge.

Hooper, along with members of the ZHS Improv Troupe, participated in the variety showcase March 8, performing instrumental solos, comedic scenes, spoken word, musical numbers and student-generated poetry in between acts.
