Fifteen contestants in the Miss USA pageant visited Zachary on July 3 to cool off and participate in water sports fun.

The group arrived at Bennett’s Boat and Ski on Barnett Road and participated in water ski and wakeboard lessons.

Some preferred to ride in the boat or get pulled along on a large inflatable tube, but all had time to pose with Zachary Mayor David Amrhein for a souvenir photograph.

The visit to Zachary was part of a busy schedule for the beauty queens who, along with the other contestants, were presented to the host city, Baton Rouge, during a welcome event at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol on July 2.

The 51 contestants represent the 50 United States and the District of Columbia in the pageant, scheduled to air at 7 p.m. July 12 on Reelz.

The contestants visited with children at Emerge Center, a nonprofit group dedicated to optimizing independent communication and social interaction skills; participated in a photo shoot to help raise awareness for Yelp! Baton Rouge at the Mount Hope Plantation House in Baton Rouge; attended a passing of the flag ceremony in downtown Baton Rouge; had a pool day at BREC’s Liberty Lagoon; went horseback riding at BREC’s Farr Park Equestrian Center; toured the Atchafalaya swamp, Old Governor’s Mansion, Marucci Sports and the Myrtles Plantation in nearby St. Francisville; and celebrated the Miss Universe Organization’s 10-year anniversary of partnering with Best Buddies International at a Mardi Gras-themed party.

The Miss USA pageant judges contestants in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview.
