Sgt. Brian Morris, K-9 Neko and DARE Officer Desirée Kent, of the Zachary Police Department, visited youth attending summer camp at Americana YMCA in Zachary on June 3.

The young campers enjoyed watching Neko execute commands given by Morris in obedience and agility.

Morris said Neko assists with indoor and outdoor searches, narcotics detection and criminal apprehension.

In April, the pair placed second in indoor narcotics search and third overall in narcotics detection at the 2016 United States Police Canine Association field trials for Region 10 in Baton Rouge.

Morris and Neko have worked together for three years. The K-9 was named during a school contest at Copper Mill Elementary.
