The Zachary Fire Department is set to host its fourth annual Pink Helmet fundraiser benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and awareness.

Thanks to contributions from Zachary businesses, the ZFD has donated nearly $7,500 to the organization since the fundraiser first began with 40 businesses participating in 2012, up to 61 participating in 2014, Zachary firefighter Gordon Lipscomb said.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, three styles of pink helmets will be worn by firefighters on all calls except first aid calls, Lipscomb said.

Solid pink helmets will show support for breast cancer awareness, pink camouflage-wrapped helmets will pay tribute to someone who has died from breast cancer and helmets with a pink ribbon wrap will be worn to honor breast cancer survivors.

Businesses taking part in the Pink Helmet campaign for the first time will pay $315 for a traditional (solid) pink helmet or $400 each for a camouflage or pink ribbon helmet.

If your business already has a helmet, the cost to participate is a $105 donation.

All helmets will feature a black leather patch on the front inscribed with the business’ name, year of participation, ZFD and feature the last name of the firefighter wearing it during the month.

Once October has ended, helmets will be returned to participating businesses to display until the following October, when firefighters will return to “borrow back” the helmets and wear them again during the 2016 fundraiser.

The deadline to order helmets is Thursday, Sept. 3.

Payments must be mailed with orders to Zachary Fire Department, P.O. Box 310, Zachary, LA 70791.

All orders must indicate the style of helmet: traditional pink, $315; camouflage pink, $400; survivor pink, $400; or recurring year, $105.

Orders must include business name, address and signature of authorized buyer or contact.
