Registration is underway for the Zachary Elementary Parent Teacher Organization’s Spring Fling 5K and Fun Run on April 9.

The event will feature an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, fun family activities and an awards ceremony.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with the 1-mile fun run around a double-looped course at Copper Mill Elementary School. The 5K begins immediately following the fun run, leaves from the school and takes runners through the Copper Mill neighborhood and back.

Both races will be chip-timed by Cajun Timing, and those finishing both races will receive a custom Spring Fling medal.

Participants are invited to refuel following the races by attending the pancake breakfast and participating in inflatables, arts and craft tables and more by BREC Outdoors and BREC on the Geaux.

Fun run entry fees are $20 per person, and 5K entry fees are $20 per youth and $30 per adult. Race registration earns participants a free event T-shirt, medal and free entry into the pancake breakfast.

Tickets for nonracers wishing to attend the breakfast will be sold on site for $5, and tickets to activities in the school’s gym are $5 per person.

ZEPTO will award the fastest runner — boy or girl — from each of the five elementary schools in Zachary.

Awards also will be given to the top overall fastest male and female as well as each 5K male and female finishing in first place and runner up from the adult (18 and up), teen (13 to 18) and youth (12 and under) categories.

Spring Fling participants can pick up their race bibs and packets at the Zachary Community School Board office, 3755 Church St., between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. April 8. Race day pick-up will be available as well.

The Southeast Louisiana chapter of Ainsley’s Angels, which raises awareness about the special needs community through inclusion in all aspects of life, will participate for the second year in ZEPTO’s Spring Fling.
