Residents from Zachary and surrounding communities who donate blood with United Blood Services during July or August will be entered to win a vacation to the destination of the winner’s choice.

“The summertime is especially difficult to ensure adequate blood supplies due to heat, traveling, schools being out of session and an increase in blood usage,” said Kim St. Blanc, donor recruitment representative for United Blood Services. “We have developed an exciting dream vacation package to serve as a reminder to donate blood this summer and to thank you for your generosity. We can’t wait to find out who wins.”

For one lucky winner, United Blood Services will cover transportation and lodging up to $6,000. Trips are not redeemable for cash and are non-transferable. Winners must be ages 21 or older. For a complete list of rules and restrictions, visit unitedbloodservices.org/la.

Sixteen- to 20-year-olds who donate blood during July or August will be entered to win an Apple Watch and will receive a free T-shirt while supplies last.

All donors will be entered to win a $50 gift card, and first-time donors will be entered to win a $25 Visa gift card.

Donors from Zachary and surrounding areas can give blood from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Lane Regional Medical Center, in the Staff Development Classroom on the first floor by Human Resources.

All blood types are needed in order to prevent any blood type shortages from occurring. Donors with negative blood types are asked to inquire with a UBS staff member regarding qualifications to donate double red cells.

Donors can visit unitedbloodservices.org on the day of their donation and click on the “Health History Questionnaire” to complete the interview portion of the donation online in the privacy of their home or office.

Be sure to print the fast track donation ticket and bring it to the donation.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height or weight requirements apply to donors ages 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donor permits for 16-year-olds can be found at unitedbloodservices.org.

Additionally, donors receive a free cholesterol test and can earn points in the UBS “Hero in Me” online rewards store. Points can be redeemed for movie tickets, pizza, shopping cards and more by visiting bloodhero.com.

Photo identification is required to donate blood. For information, call (877) 827-4376.
