LSU alumna Belle Wheelan, president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, delivered the keynote address to 672 students receiving degrees during LSU’s 287th commencement ceremony Aug. 7.

LSU President F. King Alexander presided over the ceremony and conferred degrees.

Wheelan highlighted five lessons for graduates to take with them as they begin their careers: take the time to say thank you to everyone who helps you every day; life is not a popularity contest, not everyone will like you; dress for the job you want and not the one you have; believe in yourself; and learning is a life-long activity.
