The Zachary Newcomers Club is planning a field trip to St. Francisville on Friday, which includes lunch at The Francis from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Following lunch, members will head to Rosedown Plantation for the History Mythbusters program.

Guides will relate stories that have become standard features in tours. Several of the more common myths will be debunked as Rosedown’s interpretive staff relates the truth behind these myths and the research debunking them.

Cost to attend is $10 per adult. The tour lasts 45 minutes. For information or questions about joining the club, email zacharynew comersclub@outlook.com.

Baseball program tryouts

The Dominican Republic Sports & Education Academy will be conducting tryouts on Saturday at Southern University’s baseball facilities, 801 Harding Blvd., Baton Rouge.

The DRSEA Summer Baseball Experience is a one-month pilot project to be held over the summer in the Dominican Republic for high school sophomores and juniors from the U.S.

Area baseball players interested in participating are invited to register at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and try out at 10 a.m.

Prospects must bring their own baseball shoes, glove and practice clothes and will be tested on hitting, fielding and position skills.

Players will be selected by a panel of experts based on skills and academic standing. An invitation to participate includes baseball instruction from some top coaches in the Dominican Republic and clinics conducted by Major League Baseball. Participants also will receive SAT and ACT preparation, as well as Spanish lessons.

All tryouts will receive a professional evaluation. However, trying out does not guarantee selection for the DRSEA Summer Program. A $25 fee to tryout will be assessed, but if selected, participation in the program is free.
