LSU University College presented its annual Celebration of Excellence Spring awards program in March at The Club at Union Square, awarding $74,000 in 64 undergraduate student scholarships, seven LSU faculty teaching awards, two graduate teaching assistant awards and one LSU Advisor of the Year award.
Jared Fletcher, of Zachary, was awarded the LSU University College Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship.
Fletcher, a freshman majoring in biological sciences with an overall 3.923 grade-point average, is the son of Andrew and Hattie Fletcher and a graduate of Zachary High School.
Jordan Broussard, of Pride, also was awarded the LSU University College Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship.
Broussard, a freshman currently undecided with an overall 4.0 gpa, is the daughter of Lawrence and Robyn Broussard.
She is a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge.
The Tiger Athletic Foundation Scholarship is provided through the support of the LSU Tiger Athletic Foundation and awarded to full-time students enrolled in University College who have completed a minimum of 15 hours of college-level work and earned a 3.25 or higher gpa, according to a news release.
“Two important components of student retention are the opportunities to reward students for their academic achievements and to recognize outstanding teaching in the classroom. University College is pleased to have generous donors that allow us to offer scholarships to students who have demonstrated a commitment to their college studies,” said Paul Ivey, executive director of LSU University College. “Our Celebration of Excellence ceremony allows us the opportunity to publicly recognize these young scholars.”
