Zachary Early Learning Center began its prekindergarten roundup Wednesday and will continue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Parents with a child who will turn 4 by Sept. 30 may register her or him during these times.

Tuition per child costs $450 per month but does not include breakfast or lunch. Residents who wish to apply for non-tuition pre-K must provide proof of family income before an application will be considered.

A $50 registration fee will be charged to all applicants.

The following documentation for each child must be submitted with a completed registration packet: birth certificate, social security card, up-to-date immunization records, completed registration form and four current pieces of documentation proving Zachary residency for the parent or legal guardian. Documents must include name and address.

Prices for breakfast and lunch are available online at the Zachary School District website at zacharyschools.org.

District officials said they will try to accommodate enrolling children of full-time employees first. For information, call Lorrie Wax, pre-K administrator, at (225) 654-6011.

Paint town purple for relay

The American Cancer Society’s Baker/Zachary Relay for Life committee, along with Zachary Mayor David Amrhein, has designated Friday as Paint the Town Purple Day in Baker and Zachary to raise awareness about the upcoming Relay for Life event and the fight against cancer in both communities.

Everyone is encouraged to wear purple on this day as well as decorate their doors and mailboxes with purple now until the Relay for Life event April 15.

Purple bows are available at Burk Heroman’s Florist in Zachary, which is donating proceeds to the American Cancer Society.

Fish fry fundraiser

A fish fry benefitting the Lane Regional Medical Center Foundation and its many projects is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the Zachary City Hall parking lot, where Mayor David Amrhein and staff will be frying Louisiana catfish.

Plates are $10 each and include fish, fries, hush puppies and cole slaw. This event is sponsored by Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson, LLP.

Orders of 10 or more are available for delivery, however, quantity is limited, so pre-ordering is recommended. Reserve your plate by emailing tpayment@lanermc.org or calling (225) 658-6699.

Evening egg hunt

BREC is hosting several community Easter egg hunts at various parks during March, and families with children of all ages are invited.

The first egg hunt is from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Plank Road Park, 19550 Plank Road, Zachary.

Activities will include themed recreational games; outdoor adventure slack lining; arts and crafts; a visit from the Easter Bunny; and candy provided by Elmer Chocolate.

Hunting eggs for charity

The Zachary Charity League is hosting an Easter egg hunt for children aged birth to 10-years-old from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. March 19 at Fennwood Hills Country Club, 6003 Fennwood Drive, Zachary.

An egg hunt, games, snacks and photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny will be featured, and parents are asked to bring their cameras.

Tickets are $15 per child and can be purchased by visiting zacharycharity.org.

Every child is asked to bring cake mix and frosting to donate to the Zachary Food Pantry.

Proceeds from the event will help support the Lane Foundation, Zachary Historic walking trails and the Louisiana Pediatric Cardiology Foundation.

Driver safety program

An AARP Driver Safety Program will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 22 in the Lane Medical Plaza conference room, 6550 Main St., Zachary. This classroom refresher course is for drivers aged 50 and older to learn the effects of aging on driving and how to adjust and remain safe on roadways. Most automobile insurance companies provide a multiyear discount to course graduates.
