The Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Steering Committee announced the community is invited to the 2017 Mayor’s Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Plains Presbyterian Church, 22929 Old Scenic Highway.
The theme is “Heart of the Community.” The steering committee says that the event is being sponsored by businesses, organizations and individuals, allowing the event to be free for attendees.
A full breakfast buffet will be served by the Rotary Club of Zachary beginning at 7 a.m. in the Christian Life Center at Plains Presbyterian Church.
Jay Dardenne, commissioner of administration, will serve as the keynote speaker at the event. William “Billy” Kline will serve as master of ceremonies. Mayor David Amrhein has been invited to give the official welcome, and Frank Ragsdale, chairman of the Regional Veterans Park Association, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Music will be provided by the Zachary High School Jazz Band and the newly formed Zachary Community Choir, comprised of choir members from area churches located in Zachary. Attendees will hear prayers from local clergy members and musical solo performances by Roby Wax and Michelle Willis.
The Zachary Regional Arts Council chose a watercolor piece by local artist Jenny Musacchia for the event. Area businesses have been invited to decorate the 45 tables with fall centerpieces. If you are interested in decorating a table, contact Sharon Phillips at (225) 936-6523. There is no fee.

The 2017 committee includes Kathi Brumley, Lynn Buzhardt, Beetle Fisher, Kathleen Hopewell, Sharon McKnight, Floyd Pelichet, Mary Landry, Sharon Phillips, Felicia Samuels and the Rev. Ricky Willis.
