Heritage Ranch Christian Children’s Home in Zachary hosted its sixth annual Duck, Dive, Dip & Dodge Champions for Children dodgeball tournament at the Team Automotive Group Sportsplex at BREC’s Perkins Road Community Park in Baton Rouge on June 13.

More than 300 people attended, including more than 160 players, 200 spectators and many college and professional athletes, according to a news release.

Athletes included Drew Alleman, Mike Koerner, Jarrett Lee, Charles Thomas, Corey Webster and others.

The tournament began with a field of 21 teams participating in pool play to determine seeding.

After seeding was determined, the teams participated in a double elimination tournament, with the top six teams having an opportunity to compete with a “champion” athlete on their teams, the release said.

Tournament winner, the DodgeFathers, faced an all-champion team with the help of former LSU football player and NFL free agent Webster in a best-of-three series, defeating their opponents in the final game.

“In addition to being an exceptionally fun time for all participants, this event helped promote a wonderful cause and make a real difference, positively impacting the lives of local children and families,” Heritage Ranch Executive Director Vicki Ellis said.

Proceeds from the event benefit Heritage Ranch.
