The American Cancer Society will host a Relay For Life kickoff meeting for Baker and Zachary from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Americana YMCA’s community room, 4200 Liberty Way, Zachary.

Relay for Life is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, which has teams fundraising throughout the year and celebrating their efforts at the festival-style Relay for Life slated for April 15.

The Baker and Zachary communities will unite to celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost to the disease and to raise funds for lifesaving cancer research and patient services.

The kickoff meeting is a chance for everyone to learn more about Relay for Life and how businesses can get involved.

Cancer survivors will receive special recognition, and all attendees will have an opportunity to vote on the 2016 Relay for Life theme. Refreshments will be served.

Thirty-one teams raised more than $33,000 at the 2015 relay event.
