A “Keep the Beat” bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation training event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ, 3500 39th St., Zachary. However, registration is required and ends Thursday.

Anyone age 8 and older interested in learning how to perform CPR is encouraged to attend to learn these life-saving skills.

This free training event is sponsored by Lane Regional Medical Center, Cardiovascular Institute of the South and East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Medical Services.

Kookin’ for Kerstyn reminder

Kerstyn Melan, of Zachary, is a 12-year-old Northwestern Middle School student battling anaplastic large-cell lymphoma, a rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Cast Iron Ministries is hosting a jambalaya fundraiser to help her family with medical expenses from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Shear Image Salon, 4538 Lee St., Zachary.

Plates of jambalaya, white beans, a roll and brownie will be sold for $7 each, and free delivery is available for orders of three or more within 10 miles of Zachary. Pick-up orders are encouraged by 1 p.m.

Chamber crawfish boil nears

The Zachary Chamber of Commerce is set to host its annual Membership Crawfish Boil from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 12 at The Pointe at Americana, 1160 Americana Blvd.

Each Chamber member current on dues will receive two complimentary tickets to attend. Additional tickets may be purchased for $20 each.

Deadline to register/RSVP is 3 p.m. Friday, and payment is requested in advance.

Ducks Unlimited banquet

The Ducks Unlimited Zachary chapter banquet is 6 p.m. Friday at The Pointe at Americana, 1160 Americana Blvd.

This event supports waterfowl and wetlands conservation, and both members and nonmembers are welcome.

Dinner, door prizes, a guest speaker and vendor booths will be featured. Ticket prices range from $50 per person to reserved tables for $400. A Ducks Unlimited membership is included with admission.

Fashion show and fundraiser

Honey’s Love, 4538 Lee St., in Zachary, is hosting a fashion show from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Honey’s Love features booths by 30-plus area artists, crafters and boutique owners.

While at the show, $4 bowls of jambalaya will be sold beginning at 1 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are available at Honey’s Love, and $1 from every bowl of jambalaya sold will benefit Respire Haiti.

Annual golf tourney nears

Teams of four or single players are invited to participate in the Rotary Club of Zachary’s annual fundraising golf tournament on Monday at Fennwood Hills Country Club, 6003 Fennwood Drive, Zachary.

Teams, door prizes and hole sponsors are needed.

The format is a four-person scramble, and cost to play is $400 per team or $100 per person. Those who do not have a team will be placed with other golfers. Mulligans are $10 per golfer or $40 per team.

Golf attire is required of all players.

The first flight is at 8 a.m. with registration at 7 a.m. The second flight is at 1 p.m. with registration at noon.

Play Dirty descending

Play Dirty Extreme, powered by BATTLE 6:11, is descending upon St. Francisville on May 14 at the West Feliciana Sports Park.

This 5-mile extreme course — for those brave enough to take on the challenge — features 30 obstacles including Alligator Alley, Cavernous Crossing, Giant Mud Pit, Monkey Swing, Inverted Wall, Fox Hole Pond and Spider Crawl to name a few.

In addition to the 5-mile extreme course for ages 15 and up, a 3-mile adventure course for 14 and over, a 1-mile Mini Muck for children ages 6 to 13, and spectator tickets for $10 each will be available.

There will be no race day registration, or refunds on event entry fees.
