The Chaneyville Community Center and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, along with the East Baton Rouge Parish Office of Social Services and Metro Councilman Trae Welch, District 1, hosted the second annual Back-to-School Giveaway on Aug. 1.

More than 250 people attended the event at Mt. Pleasant Church on Reames Road in Zachary.

About 100 uniform vouchers, worth $25 each, and 110 school-supply bags were distributed.

The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 416 and Social Services handed out school supplies, while the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office DARE unit and EBR Clerk of Court’s Office issued more than 70 children’s identification badges.

Families had an opportunity to donate to United Blood Services, which collected 21 units of blood, and participate in health screenings and blood pressure checks.

Face painting, inflatables and music also were featured, along with free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and ice pops.
