First Baptist Church in Zachary will serve as one of 4,000 sites nationwide collecting gift-filled shoeboxes for children overseas as part of Operation Christmas Child during the week of Nov. 16-22.

The annual Samaritan’s Purse project is a favorite among residents, families, churches and groups who work to spread joy to children living in poverty by filling shoeboxes with gifts, toys, school supplies, hygiene items and notes of encouragement.

National Operation Christmas Child organizers said they hope to collect 11 million gift boxes this year.

Anyone can participate by filling a shoebox with the above items and drop off at First Baptist Church in Zachary, 4200 Main St., on the following dates and times: Monday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Nov. 19, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Nov. 20, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Nov. 21, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Nov. 22, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and Nov. 23, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
