Jesseca Johnson, Zachary High’s Interact Club sponsor, visited the Rotary Club of Zachary on March 10, thanking President Mindy Head and the service organization for a $1,000 donation to help send the high school club to the annual Interact Convention.

Interact, considered the high school equivalent to Rotary, is a community service-based organization that provides opportunities for students aged 12 to 18 to volunteer at their schools and in their communities and parishes.

At Zachary High, 62 Interact students volunteer at events every month, Johnson said. To date, members have assisted at St. Vincent de Paul by making brown-bag lunches, serving food to the homeless during the mid-day lunch program and by making Easter baskets for youth in need.

Students also have worked with many Big Buddy programs and with Special Olympics through Capital Area United Way.

The club attends the Interact Convention annually, competing against other schools in District 6200 in the following categories: skits, lip syncing, banner and project of the year.

Zachary Rotary has been Interact’s biggest sponsor since the club began at ZHS. Funds donated by Rotary are used to cover travel expenses for the students.
