The Zachary Charity League, a group of women who have dedicated themselves to organizing, hosting and raising money at charitable events that benefit others, made good on their promise July 14 at the Zachary City Council meeting.

The women — Laura Kate Amrhein, Robyn Amrhein, Aimee Barr, Renee Beadle, Jaime Engels, Carrie Godbold, Ava Howard, Claire Simmons, Christy Turner and Carole Wilkins — donated a total of $18,000 to their “charities” of choice for 2015.

Receiving $6,000 each were the Zachary Food Pantry, Zachary Police Reserves and Zachary Volunteer Fire Department.

Charity League fundraising events in 2014-15 have included Breakfast with Santa, Survivor’s Breakfast for Relay for Life, a community Easter egg hunt, masquerade ball, tennis tournament, garage sale and golf cart raffle.

Beadle said the group also hosted a football board for a child in the community diagnosed with a serious illness, and $500 was given to the American Cancer Society from garage sale proceeds.

“The fundraising events are in an effort to help others in our own community and for people in the community to participate,” Beadle said.

Requests for the Charity League’s help were due last week, and the ZCL said it will be meeting to make a final decision on which organizations or groups will receive its help in 2015-16. Also, the ZCL is accepting new members. An application can be downloaded from the group’s website at zacharycharity.org. Deadline to apply is July 31. Applications must be emailed to zacharycharityleague@gmail.com.
