AARP Louisiana, the Center for Planning Excellence and the Lieutenant Governor’s Office are seeking nominations for the 2015 Great Places in Louisiana awards program that offers a $5,000 grand prize to the winner.

Information, nominations and previous winners can be found at

Nominations can be submitted through the website until midnight Sept. 30, and nominees are asked to submit photos along with a two-minute video tour of the project.

Qualified applicants include people, organizations and local governments in the state. Anyone older than 18 can participate.

The awards program recognizes innovations in planning, housing and transportation that create communities where people of all ages and abilities can live. Great places are communities where people can find meaningful ways to engage with neighbors and friends, can live in affordable housing, can use a range of transportation options and can access social and supportive services, a news release said.

Winners will be announced at a reception Nov. 3-4 in conjunction with the 10th annual Louisiana Smart Growth Summit at the Manship Theatre at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge.
