Northwestern Elementary School kindergartners in Zachary were joined by their teachers, faculty and school administrators in dressing up for Halloween on Oct. 30 for the school’s annual costume contest.

Contest winners were:

  • FIRST PLACE: Teachers Jaqueline Burrell, Jacob Fisher and Lea Rettig who dressed as Pop See Koo characters from the popular children’s dance-pop duo, Koo Koo Kanga Roo.

Their students dressed in costume, danced and sang along, “My hands are high, my feet are low, and this is how I Pop See Ko!”

  • SECOND PLACE: Teachers Beth Dauthier as Wally Nut, Peyton Gunnell as Grandma Nut and Afton McNatt as Hazel Nut won for dressing as the Nuts family from the “The Nuts Sing and Dance in Your Polka Dot Pants,” a popular children’s book, song and video.
  • THIRD PLACE: Teacher Brittany Pressler and her students came as characters from the classic children’s novel “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White.
  • HONORABLE MENTIONS: Teachers Elena Arnett as Piggie and Sarah Hecht as Elephant from the Elephant and Piggie book “There Is a Bird on Your Head” by Text ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/SolidText ColorSwatch/NoneStrokeStyle/$ID/Solid$ID/NothingText ColorText Color$ID/NothingText ColorText ColorMo Willems, and teacher Stephanie Albarez for dressing as a friendly witch.
