Though signing day for prep track athletes was April 13, three members of the Zachary High girls track team signed scholarships April 18 during a ceremony attended by their families, teammates, coaches and school administrators.
Candace Baity signed with Alcorn State in Mississippi, Nique Griffin with Louisiana Tech and Dakota Williams with Southeastern University.
Baity, 18, runs hurdles; Griffin, 18, runs sprints and relays and competes in the high jump and long jump; and Williams, 18, runs sprints and relays.
All three are members of the Lady Broncos’ state champion indoor track team this year.
Baity played volleyball and ran track at her previous high school in Mississippi. She is the daughter of Howard and Livian Baity.
Griffin is the daughter of Kenneth and Mona Griffin. She is the older sister of track teammate Frankie Griffin.
Williams has competed on the Lady Broncos’ track team all four years at ZHS. She is the daughter of Sheree Williams.
At the signing ceremony, Athletic Director Jesse Cassard said it was an honor to watch the three signees, who have excelled in academics and athletics, sign four-year deals with major universities.
