The Chaneyville Community Center near Zachary was the site of the William M. Lockhart Sr. Christmas dinner for seniors residing in District 1, which is presided over by East Baton Rouge Parish Metro Councilman Trae Welch.

“Everything was lovely, and the seniors had a great time,” said Lisa Rioux, Welch’s legislative assistant.

The dinner is named after Lockhart, the first director of the Chaneyville Community Center, who served from 1984 to 2000. He also was a founding member of the Baton Rouge Early Risers Kiwanis Club, which sponsors the annual dinner, Rioux said.

Welch and Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden attended the event.

Each month, Welch hosts a Metro 1 meeting, rotating at locations in Baker, Chaneyville and Zachary.

District 1 residents are invited to share ideas and suggestions about relevant issues.

District 1 includes the northern part of the parish — Baker, Chaneyville, Pride, Zachary and a small portion of Central.
