The Zachary High School Swim Team picked up first-place medals during a recent meet, with the girls team finished in second place.

The boys teams finished first out of six teams, and the girls finished second out of the five teams competing.

“Overall, we had a great season,” head swim coach Lisa McGehee said.

At the Oct. 12 meet, the Zachary boys won the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay and tied for first in the 400 freestyle relay, McGehee said.

In addition, Zachary’s boys earned two first-place finishes, one second- and one third-place finish.

Luke Troth was a double winner in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.

Zachary girls earned a second-place finish, two third-place finishes and one fourth-place, McGehee said.

Additional top swimmers included Collin Dupuy, Garrett Rushing, Schyler Mire, Hannah Partin, Ashley Marler, Mary Ellen McCray and Austin Wittig.

The ZHS Swim team will compete Nov. 1-2 in the Capital City Swim League Championships at Crawfish Aquatics in Baton Rouge.

Zachary will compete against 24 teams at the meet.

“I feel like we will be very competitive,” McGehee said.

The Louisiana High Schools Athletic Association’s State Swim Meet is scheduled for Nov. 21-22 in Sulphur at the SPAR Aquatic Center.

McGehee says 16 swimmers are scheduled to compete at the state meet.
