The Louisiana Forestry Foundation awarded 45 scholarships to college students for the 2016-17 academic year totaling $54,500.

The scholarships were awarded to students who are majoring in forestry at Louisiana Tech, LSU and Oakdale Technical College.

The students will receive funds from the endowed named scholarships that provide income without using the principal of the fund that created the scholarship.

Since it began in 1969, the foundation has awarded about $819,000 in scholarships.

Receiving a scholarship is Louisiana Tech University senior Kyle Gordon, from Zachary, who was awarded the Charles H. Lewis Jr. Scholarship.
