Renee Johnson, site coordinator at the East Baton Rouge Parish Council on Aging’s Zachary Senior Center, leads senior citizens from the Baker and Zachary areas during weekday activities such as Bible study, exercise, games, health screenings, listening to music and outings.

Open 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, the center serves lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m.

Johnson said the seniors stay active by gardening, line dancing, bowling and playing games such as bingo, bean bag horseshoes, dominoes and various board games.

During the summer, Johnson takes the seniors swimming at the Council on Aging’s Homewood site on Granada Drive in Baton Rouge. Also, the group celebrates birthdays and honors a senior of the month.
