BASF and employees from the company’s Geismar and Zachary locations raised $248,000 for Capital Area United Way during the 2014-15 fundraising campaign, according to a news release.

The total represents a $20,000 increase over the previous year, the release said.

“Our continued work with United Way has given BASF and our employees the opportunity to provide support — both financial and volunteer resources — to help strengthen our local community,” said Tom Yura, senior vice president and general manager at the Geismar site.

BASF presented a check to Capital Area United Way during the Geismar site’s annual jambalaya cook-off fundraiser.

BASF also gave about $100,000 in 2014 to several United Way partner organizations such as American Red Cross, McMain’s Developmental Center and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
