Twelve nurses at Lane Regional Medical Center recently were nominated by patients, family members, physicians and colleagues for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Nominated were Pam Alexander, Don Boyte, Brittany Casey, Brian Dixon, Miriam Everett, Mallori Fletcher, Debra Gorman, Latoria Muse, Dana Nam, Kourtney Peel, Tiffany Perkins and Cheryl Riles.

Casey, a 12-year Lane employee, was named the overall honoree.

A graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, Casey works in Lane’s Intensive Care Unit. She received her critical care certification and is a member of the hospital’s ICU Committee and Nursing Informatics Shared Governance Council.

A Zachary native and resident, Casey is married to Tony Casey, and they have one daughter, Collins.

As a DAISY Award recipient, Casey received a hand-carved serpentine stone sculpture from Zimbabwe, called “A Healer’s Touch,” a certificate proclaiming her an “Extraordinary Nurse” and a pin.

“This is a great honor, and I’m very thankful to have received it,” Casey said.

The DAISY Award was established to celebrate the compassion nurses provide their patients and families every day, a news release said.
