Denise Brown’s kindergarten class at Northwestern Elementary School recently learned about giving, sharing, the difference between a need and a want and the story of the first Thanksgiving, involving the Pilgrims and the Indians.

After their lesson, the students designed Thanksgiving-themed placemats for the families who are fed weekly at the Zachary Food Pantry.

“We thought this was a great way to make the lesson more concrete, more hands-on,” Brown said.

On Nov. 20, Principal Martha Davis, Brown and her students hand-delivered their placemats to Food Pantry Executive Director Reggie Dykes, who distributed the mats to food pantry clients on Nov. 24.
