Zachary Elementary School held its annual Spelling Bee for third- and fourth-graders Feb. 23-24.
Each classroom held a spelling competition that had the top-spelling boys and girls advance to compete against other top spellers in their grade, said Suzanne Lemoine, librarian at Zachary Elementary.
Third-grade teacher Holly Marchiafava organized the Spelling Bee.
Third-graders competed Feb. 23 while fourth-graders competed Feb. 24.
Emma Todd became the overall third-grade champion for correctly spelling the word “advantageous.”
Fourth-grader Arun Waran was named top speller when he spelled “authoritative.”
Each speller in the grade-level competition received a medal, while Todd and Waran also received champion Spelling Bee plaques.
The top third-grade spellers were: Trinity Adams, Devin Beathley, Broderick Brooks, Andrea Condol, Noah Faust, Ava Harborth, Cameron Hughes, Kirstyn Hughes, Madison Hull, Jasmine Lanes, Austin Maharrey, Alyssa Major, Samara Morris, Jarrick Nedie, Ethan Partin, Alyvia Pierson, Zoe Rigney, Alivia Roberts, Christian Sonnier, Hope Thomas, Emma Todd, Will Town, Evan Vallerie, Torreon Wallace, Russell Wells, Riley Wofford and Tarlaysia Young.
The top fourth-grade spellers were: Deanna Anthony, Madison Ballard, Devall Barrow, Jada Berry, Tyler Brignac, Davon Brown, Imani Coleman, Christian D’Esposito, Calla Duggan, Miya Dunn, J’Marquise Elmore, Carter Escher, Madison Hankton, Elanah Hassan, Charles Heard, Tia Joiner, Matthew Keller, Toraino Kelly, Ambria Langley, Mariah Lee, Nasir Loyel, Annie Maas, Gavin Malden, Aniya Matthews, Andon Mounts, Jackson Phelps, Chastity Sample, Lillian Stalder, Cheylin Stephens, Kaiya Thompson, Arun Waran and Malia Williams.
