The Rotary Club of Zachary was honored with a granite plaque Nov. 19 at Zachary Youth Park.

The service organization contributed nearly $2,000 in landscaping for a roundabout constructed about a year ago at the city-owned park.

The funds purchased knock-out roses, trees and shrubbery that surround a concrete center, a statue of Zachary High’s Bronco mascot and American, state and city flags. The roundabout was part of $1.4 million in park improvements made possible by Community Development Block Grants awarded because of damages sustained to the park by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike in 2008.

The roundabout was added to help guide vehicles to a covered awning area during weather-related emergencies, city officials said.

Zachary Youth Park hosts all high school baseball and softball home games, practices, park league teams, out-of-state tournaments and home games for Baton Rouge Community College Lady Bears’ softball squad.

The granite plaque will be placed on a concrete stand and made visible to all who use the roundabout, Youth Park Secretary Dianne LeBlanc said.
