The Zachary community and families of students and faculty of Zachary High School are invited to attend the ZHS Library Book Fair slated for Nov. 20-21 at Barnes & Noble, 2590 Citiplace Court, in Baton Rouge.

By mentioning ZHS when checking out at the register, a portion of sales will benefit the high school.

The school’s library began hosting the fair two years ago, now an integral part in raising funds to purchase resources for students that help with successful participation in the Accelerated Reader program and for classroom activities and projects, librarian Christina Knight said.

Prior to and during the book fair, students will be selling Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes, which can be picked up at the fair in time for the holidays. Godiva Double Chocolate, Red Velvet and plain cost $45 each and Sugar Rush Gooey Chocolate Caramel Tarts and Apple Crumble Pies cost $40 each.

Each year, the fair is supported by clubs, groups and organizations from all schools within the district.

Knight said the book fair is an opportunity for students to host various activities and to showcase their talents.

Past student participation has included drama readings, displays of student artwork, gift wrapping, choir performances and story time. Interested groups and clubs should email Knight to participate.

Additionally, through the Zachary High Community Service program, students can earn hours by signing up to assist with scheduled activities, which will count towards the Service Diploma Endorsement.

To earn the endorsement, students must attain a minimum total of 80 service hours: 10 hours in ninth grade, 15 in 10th grade and 25 hours in both 11th and 12th grades. Sign-up sheets are located in the school library.

Activities sponsored by Barnes & Noble during the ZHS Book Fair will include story time and crafts on Friday and story time and a music and vinyl (record) celebration on Saturday, which will include giveaways, special offers, signed editions and exclusive products.
