Area teens “walked through fantasy” at a recent open microphone night at the Zachary library, according to Nancy Lockett, teen services librarian for the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Library.

Teens were invited Nov. 18 to share music, poetry, dance, skits and other types of entertainment from their favorite epic and fantasy-fiction novels, Lockett said.

Family and friends were invited to attend as members of the audience.

“They dressed in their favorite fictional characters and we held a costume contest,” Lockett said.

Claire Bullock won for dressing as Arya from “The Inheritance Cycle” by Christopher Paolini.

Drew Albritton dressed as a wizard from the “Harry Potter” series and emceed the event.

Others participated in trivia from popular high-fantasy novels, Lockett said.

Open mic night is sponsored by the Zachary Library Teen Council and open to eighth-graders and older.

All performers and acts are preapproved.

Up next, the Zachary Teen Council will celebrate the holidays with a Christmas party from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 9.
