Students who competed in the 14th annual Environmental Awareness Art and Language Arts contest will be honored for their winning entries at an awards reception in Baton Rouge at the Governor’s Mansion on Tuesday.
This year’s contest featured the theme Exploring the Natural World, and the first-place winner will receive $200; second-place, $100; and third-place, $75.
Winning art and language arts entries will be used to create a 2017 Environmental Awareness calendar, which will be distributed statewide. Also, selected winning language arts entries will be published in newspapers, and winning art entries will be placed on billboards in the winners’ local areas.
Categories for each entry type included: Group 1, contestants ages 5 to 7; Group 2, ages 8 to 10; Group 3; ages 11 to 13; and Group 4, ages 14 to 18. Local winners include:
- ART, GROUP 1: Ava Raymond, second place, Rollins Place Elementary, Zachary
- LANGUAGE ARTS, GROUP 2: Landry Brouillette, first place, home-schooled, St. Francisville
- LANGUAGE ARTS, GROUP 3: Emma Marangos, second place, Copper Mill Elementary, Zachary
- LANGUAGE ARTS, GROUP 4: Paycen Brouillette, second place, home-schooled, St. Francisville
