'The Lion King Jr.' hits the stage

Get ready to be entertained as “The Lion King Jr.” roars onto stage at Northwestern Middle School on Feb. 22-24. Featuring the music of Elton John and Tim Rice and based on the Broadway production, the school’s show will be directed by Heather Savoie with music by Cassi Doherty.

The production is scheduled for 7 p.m. each night at 5200 E. Central Ave., Zachary, and tickets are available at nms-drama.ticketleap.com/thelionkingjr.

Shake your groove thing

People’s Health is hosting free community events in February. On Tuesday, join instructor Amanda Ackman for a basic Zumba class.

Participants are invited to the 10 a.m. class at the Americana YMCA, 4200 Liberty Way, Zachary, for a chance to get moving and have some fun.

Oh, baby!

Lane Regional Medical Center is offering a Pregnancy Workshop and Baby Care Basics program from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Staff Development Classroom at 6300 Main St., Zachary.

See an overview of what to expect during pregnancy, delivery and the first weeks of life. A tour of Baby Lane, the hospital’s labor and delivery unit, is included in the program.

Take a ride

Seniors age 50 and up are invited to the Zachary Community Park at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, for a Silver Spokes biking program. The event offers seniors a chance to maintain fitness, lift spirits and enjoy a social experience while riding with others.

Specially designed cruisers and three-wheeled adult trikes are available for a nominal fee, or participants are welcome to bring their own bikes and ride for free.

The Zachary Lions Club is planning its spring garage sale on March 3-4 to benefit the organization’s charitable community projects. Club members are asking for donations such as household items, used children’s clothing, toys, furniture and more by Feb. 28.

Tennis anyone?

Registration is open for Tennis Camp at the Americana YMCA in Zachary. Scheduled for April 10-13, the program is open to ages 5-18.

Morning sessions for ages 5-9 will meet from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $140 for unlimited YMCA members, $160 for Y members and $180 for others.

Afternoon sessions for ages 10-18 start at 12:30 p.m and run until 4:30 p.m. The fee is $150 for unlimited YMCA members, $170 for Y members and $190 for others.
