Among the tens of thousands of participants for the Jan. 19 March for Life Rally in Washington, D.C., were 13 members of the Zachary St. John Youth Ministry. These youth and their chaperones joined an additional 450 youth from within the Diocese of Baton Rouge on chartered buses to the D.C. event.

Donning white hats bearing “March for Life”, the youth joined an estimated half a million participants. The march began at the Washington Monument, winding around to the final destination of the steps of the U. S. Supreme Court in a visible show of support for the banning of abortion.

This participation by the youth was made possible via the financial support of the St. John the Baptist’s Catholic Youth Ministry’s Resource Committee, which coordinates year-round events to raise funds for this and other activities that afford the youth opportunities to reach the broader community while gaining valuable life skills.

Among the numerous annual fundraising events coordinated by the committee is the upcoming Rally-at-the-Alley Bowl-a-thon Feb. 24 at All Star Lanes in Baton Rouge. People of all ages are invited to register for six-player teams at $150 ($25/player), which includes two hours of play, shoes, balls and refreshments. Bowling expertise is not required to join in the fun; individuals can participate, too, for a cost of $30.

Teams can compete for prizes in three categories within the Team T-Shirt Contest, and door prizes will be drawn throughout the  event. Registration deadline is Tuesday.
