Organizers from Americana, Level Homes, Lane Regional Medical Center and Superior Ford are busy making preparations for the second annual Code Red Chili Cook-off slated for Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Americana development in Zachary, between the YMCA and The Pointe on Liberty Way.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a chili cook-off, craft beer-tasting, refreshments, bands, music, games and chances to win several great raffle prizes will be featured.
Admission and parking are free.
Individuals or teams from area businesses or organizations will compete for the title of Best Chili champion in adult and youth divisions. Attendees will select the People’s Choice and Best Team Spirit awards. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m.
Craft beers, cold drinks, hot dogs and nachos will be available for purchase.
The Gillis Silo, West Without, Britton Furlow and Zachary singer-songwriter Michelle Willis are scheduled to perform throughout the day, and Sam McGuire of WYNK will broadcast live from the event.
Special appearances by Venessa the Louisiana Mermaid (10 a.m. to noon), Scooby Doo & The Mystery Machine (all day) and members of Langston Taekwondo Academy (all day) are scheduled.
A Kid’s Zone featuring a dunking booth, photo booth, football toss, ring toss, face-painting, art station and cake walk will keep youth entertained.
Raffle tickets for $10 each offer chances to win a hand-carved cedar rocking chair donated by Byron Minor in memory of Darryl Rousseau ($500 value); a chartered fishing trip for four people, including one day of fishing and an overnight stay by SeaHagg Charters ($1,600 value); a set of four Uniroyal SUV or light truck tires donated by Superior Ford ($820 value); and a diamond necklace and earring set donated by Gary Allen Design ($350 value). Raffle winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m.
