TaShira Green, a graduate of Zachary High, was among the 33 recipients of special culinary scholarships from the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation Board of Directors.
Green, a second-year recipient, is attending the Chef John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University.
The foundation’s Board of Directors, through its scholarship fund, will award $70,000 in scholarships this year.
The recipients will be honored at the 2015 LRAEF Five Star Futures Gala on Aug. 8 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.
The LRAEF Scholarship Fund was created in 2009 to support the educational future of ProStar students, industry educators and other students with an interest in restaurant and hospitality studies. This program allows recipients to pursue post-secondary education with the goal of having them consider those fields as a career choice, a news release said.
Since its inception, the Scholarship Fund has awarded $270,000 to deserving students.
The LRA Culinary and Hospitality Leadership Scholarship is presented to students who are currently enrolled or have been accepted in a hospitality or culinary degree program.
“The best part of my role as chairperson of the LRA Education Foundation is having the opportunity to recognize students for their hard work,” said Lenny Raymond. “I have no doubt that these scholarships will help our recipients to become leaders and innovators in the restaurant industry.”
