A 26-year-old Baton Rouge man was indicted Thursday in the rape of a child.

Donald L. Batiste, 2127 71st Ave., is charged with one count of first-degree rape and two counts of sexual battery upon a child under the age of 13.

Batiste is accused of raping the child in 2015, and committing sexual battery on the child in 2015 and 2016, according to an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indictment.

A conviction on the rape charge would carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

The case is assigned to state District Judge Lou Daniel.
