A 30-year-old Baton Rouge man was charged Thursday in the July 28 shooting death of a man in the Valley Park neighborhood near the intersection of College Drive and Interstate 10.
Jason Paul Pitcher, 2495 Barber St., was charged with second-degree murder by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury in the slaying of Rodney Lee, 44. Both men lived in Valley Park.

Police believe the shooting was the result of Pitcher accusing Lee of wanting to rob him. Pitcher also shot a dog, which was treated by a veterinarian.
The case has been assigned to state District Judge Tony Marabella.
