A Baton Rouge man who defrauded his former employer is headed to federal prison for 29 months and must pay the company, Axiall Corp., nearly $1.5 million in restitution, acting U.S. Attorney Corey Amundson said Friday.

Wade Barbay, 54, a former financial manager who pleaded guilty in March to wire fraud, was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge John deGravelles.

Barbay, who worked at Axiall's Plaquemine facility for 24 years, pulled off the embezzlement scheme by inflating business expenses submitted by other employees. He also negotiated corporate refund checks on the company's behalf and deposited the checks into his personal account, Amundson said.

The scheme operated from January 2011 to May 2016.
