A Baton Rouge gang member and felon was indicted Wednesday in the July 9 shooting death of a St. Gabriel gospel singer and pianist in the Gardere-area.

Eric Robertson, 23, is accused of having shot 25-year-old Andre Wright when Wright tried to intervene in a fight between his brother and Robertson on Mariner Drive.

Robertson, 6874 Hanks Drive, was charged with second-degree murder by an East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury. The case has been assigned to state District Judge Chip Moore.

Robertson's arrest warrant describes him as a known member of the Big Money Block Boyz gang. He was convicted of simple burglary and theft of a firearm in 2013, and simple burglary again in 2014.

At the time of the fatal shooting, Robertson was on parole through 2020 for a drug conviction.

Wright was the music director at Rock Zion Baptist Church in St. Gabriel and Greater Hollywood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. He led the choirs and played the organ.
