A 45-year-old man accused of choking and holding his wife at gunpoint after she told him she planned to divorce him was arrested Monday.
Frank J. Collins was arguing with his wife at their home around 2 p.m. when she told him she wanted a divorce, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office report says. He pushed her into their bedroom and grabbed her around the throat, choking her, the report says, while he demanded she pack his things.
Collins pushed her away from him, and her left hand struck a large wooden bedpost. As she began to pack Collins’ belongings, he picked up a handgun from a nightstand and pointed it at her, threatening to kill her, the report says.
After she finished packing, the woman told Collins she needed to leave to pick up her grandchild and left the residence at 16641 S. Harrell’s Ferry Road No. 5906, without further incident, the report says.
When deputies arrested Collins, he said he and his wife had gotten into an argument but it never became physical.
Collins was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of simple battery and second-degree aggravated battery.
