A son stabbed his mother with a knife after an argument turned violent Monday, according to police.

Baton Rouge police officers arrested Tom Edward Johnson, 24, in the stabbing in the 1700 block of North 36th Street just before 8 p.m., said department spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola.

Johnson told officers responding to the stabbing that he wanted to kill his mother and “wished that he could have done more,” a police report says. Johnson later admitted to another officer that he’d stabbed his mother because he was angry, the report says.

The suspect’s father was also present during the attack and witnessed the stabbing, the report says.

Johnson, who was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, faces a count of attempted second-degree murder, Coppola said. Johnson injured his mother in the upper torso, but she is expected to survive, Coppola said.
